Camping and day visits

Whether you're joining us for a school excursion or staying overnight on one of our camping programs, here's what you need to know before you visit us.

Camping

School groups staying overnight on excursion have three options:

Option 1: Bring your own equipment
Your group provides all tents, cooking equipment and supplies.
Option 2: Hire our tents and camp kitchen
You can hire WNPEEC tents and our camp kitchen equipment. This is the  equipment we supply.
Hire fees depend on group size and length of stay.
Option 3: Other accommodation

If you prefer not to camp at the Warrumbungle National Park EEC, you can book accommodation at:

Risk Assessment
Impact of weather on your camping

Our programs are run predominately outside. We have postponed a school visit on the rare occasion in unfavourable weather. We are a DoE Category 1 school in bushfire risk and are subject to closure by the DoE in Extreme Fire Danger.  The National Park also restricts access to walking tracks in Extreme Fire Danger and also at times due to unforeseen operations, close the park at short notice.  The EEC will notify you of such closure as soon as we are advised.  Your school bus is required to stay on site in High Fire Danger in case of evacuation.

Day visits

Here's what you need to know if you and your students are visiting us for a day trip like an excursion.

Important day visit information:

Complete your student welfare forms
Before your visit to WNPEEC we ask that a Student welfare form be filled in and returned so that WNPEEC staff are aware of any medical and other welfare issues.
Complete a risk assessment
As part of school policy requirement you will need to complete a Risk assessment plan.  We have provided a link to the Risk assessment plan for each of our programs.  For help with planning your excursion please refer to this WHS hazard factsheet:  Excursions - domestic
Bring low waste lunches

Please encourage students to bring a low waste and healthy lunch for their visit to WNPEEC. We would prefer students take their rubbish home with them. We do have a compost bin for compostable rubbish.  A Low Waste lunch may include:

  • sandwiches wrapped in grease-proof paper.
  • fresh fruit. It comes with its own compostable packaging.
  • biscuits or cake in a paper bag that can be composted.
  • a drink in a reusable container. This can be washed and used again.

Developed by dietitians,  healthylunchbox.com.au  is a one-stop shop for everything you need to know about packing a healthy lunch box. On their website there is an interactive lunch box builder, a wide range of nut-free recipes, an ‘Inspiration and Ideas’ section that includes healthy snack alternatives and informative blogs to help parents.  Developed by Cancer Council NSW.
