Our Stage 3 excursions are designed for Years 5 and 6 students and combine fieldwork, creative projects and active learning in the natural environment.

eSTEM - taking it to new heights
Environmental (e) STEM will provide students with an introduction to real world environmental coding using mini-drones. Incursion only.

Mini-beasts - survival of the fittest
Students examine insect adaptations in a woodland ecosystem.
They conduct a bug hunt in the Warrumbungle National Park and using microscopes (digital and light) students use iPads to write an e-book about adaptations of invertebrates.
Students learn how to complete a scientific drawing using a digital drawing app on the iPad and also hand drawing.
Students take home their scientific artwork.

Nature's story
Students will discuss the power of words and differing word combinations to suggest a variety of meanings before we wander around the unique Warrumbungle National Park taking in the magestic and unique ancient rugged cliffs and the pristine flowing creeks. The students will take a portfolio of photographs that portray the special features of nature and will develop a word bank.
Students will be introduced to the basic techniques and methods of digital photography and photo editing on an iPad. Students make a montage of images and words to convey Nature’s Story, practising skills in visual literacy.
Printed images will be used to form a class collection for an environmental art appreciation session.

eSTEM - energy and renewable energies
This program comprises of pre-work, incursion/excursion and post-work to target scientific and environmental literacy.
The program involves a large extent of inquiry-based learning consisting of first-hand practical investigations using STELR equipment to answer a range of questions on energy and electrical renewable energies. These are in the form of directed investigations and guided student-designed investigations. Most are small group investigations with some whole class experiments and also explicit teaching.

On country light
The On country light program will involve creating valuable and memorable learning experiences for rural, remote and urban students by providing them with basic equipment to get them on a multi-day wilderness exploration and immerse them in the Warrumbungle National Park's diverse environments, to maximise wellbeing, sustainability and curriculum outcomes.

Leadership camp
The Stage 3 Leadership Program will assist to develop self-confidence, communication skills and team work amongst your cohort of leaders.
Students will gather a greater understanding of character attributes to distinguish their own strengths and discover traits that will assist them in their leadership abilities to enable positive change at their school and within their community.

Castlereagh connections
A two day program that includes exploring the Castlereagh River by canoe, visioning, brainstorming and creating artworks, cultural awareness, water quality testing, surveying birds, flora and rubbish and developing our Castlereagh custodianship.

Gamilaraay experience
Students are immersed in a sequence of practical Cultural outdoor experiences to inspire and enrich classroom teaching.
Please note that this program is not currently running, however most of our programs embed Gamilaraay culture.

War on waste
This program is aimed at undertaking a waste investigation of rubbish collected from students' and your school's playground rubbish bins.
This will provide the material to allow enquiry based learning and problem solving discussions with the whole class.
The investigation findings allow students to determine ways in which they can convince their school to be more environmentally conscious with regards to waste from the playground.
